Taketoya, or a night of 8000 bamboo
lights ,is a‘slow night’when people enjoy strolling the central
Wakayama city lead by the 8000 bamboo candles.
On taketoya night, the areas from the Wakayama Castle to the Honmachi-dori
shopping area will be lined with the gentle lights along the water
of moats, stone walls, trees, which are just turning to their
autumn colours. The bamboos are of local variety, harvested and
donated from the Sando District of Wakayama city in 2006. This
is one local distinctiveness project that will highlight the natural
and cultural heritage of Wakayama City with an important environmental
message to enjoy a slow life.
